Failure to Appear/Respond to a Jury Summons
General Information
Serving on jury duty may feel inconvenient, but the right to a trial by jury is a privilege guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the California State Constitution. To protect this important right, citizens must perform their civic duty and serve when called.
Under California Code of Civil Procedure Section 209, any prospective juror who is summoned for service and does not respond as directed or get excused may be found in contempt of court. This can result in a fine of up to $1,500, incarceration for up to five days, or both.
If you did not appear as required, please contact Jury Administration at (909) 884-1858. A representative will help you.
