Civil eFiling Requirements
The San Bernardino Superior Court’s electronic filing (“eFiling”) requirements for Civil are issued pursuant to Code of Civil Procedure section 1010.6, California Rules of Court, rules 2.250, et seq., and Superior Court of San Bernardino County, Local Rules, rule 1800.
Documents that do not meet these rules or are not eligible for eFiling will be turned down.
Participation
- Anyone can use eFiling for eligible Civil cases.
- Civil cases include Limited, Unlimited, and Complex matters.
Requirements for eFiling
- EFSP Account: You must create an account with an approved electronic filing service provider (EFSP). Find a list of approved EFSPs here.
- File Format:
- All documents must be PDFs, created using Adobe Acrobat version 7 or higher.
- Documents must be text-searchable (OCR).
- Forms must not have fillable fields or objects in the image.
- Signatures: You must keep originals of all documents you eFile, including those with signatures. Electronic signatures must follow specific rules.
- Privacy: Only the last four digits of social security or financial account numbers can appear in filings. You are responsible for removing any hidden metadata, which could reveal sensitive information.
- Filing Time:
- Documents received by the court between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on a court day will count as filed that day (if accepted).
- Documents sent on non-court days are filed the next court day.
- Notifications: For notices under the Code of Civil Procedure, electronic service is governed by specific rules.
File Size Limits
- A single document cannot exceed 25 MB.
- A total eFile submission cannot exceed 50 MB.
General Civil Motions
- Before eFiling, you must reserve a hearing date and time for general civil motions. If you don’t, the motion will be rejected. (This rule doesn’t apply to Unlawful Detainer cases.)
Exhibits & Bookmarks
- Electronic exhibits must follow court rules.
- Exhibits should have bookmarks linking to the first page of each exhibit and briefly describing the content (e.g., "Exhibit A - Contract").
Color Scanned Documents
- If a document needs to be scanned in color, use 300 dpi resolution for better upload and storage.
Proposed Orders & Judgments
- File proposed orders and judgments as separate documents from proofs of service.
- Proofs of service must also be submitted separately.

Public Access to eFiled Documents
- Documents submitted through an EFSP may be visible to the public or press immediately, even if they are not officially accepted by the court.
- The eFiler is responsible for ensuring proper security levels and filing codes. Documents that need to be sealed cannot be eFiled.
